Regular Worship

Here at St. Anne's we have a balanced mixture of services that will suit all tastes at some time during the month. Worship is coordinated by the vicar, assisted by Revd Bryan Pugh and our Licensed Lay Ministers Michael Howard and Margaret Phillips. For feast days and other important village events, and for variety we also schedule a number of special services.

The Church of England prepares special, topical prayers or 'collects' for each day of the year. You might care to look at the daily prayer of today using the link below:

Music is arranged by our Director of Music and Organist Margaret Phillips. St Anne's has a particularly fine organ and a dedicated choir.

What it means to be a Christian.

Christian life is lived in relationship with God through Jesus Christ, and in common with other Christians in the church seeking to deepen that relationship and to follow the way that Jesus taught.

For Christians God is understood and known as Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

…Father… God is love, caring for creation and for every human being as God's beloved child.

…Son… God is as he has revealed himself to be in the historical person of Jesus Christ. Jesus' life, death and resurrection holds the key to knowing and loving God, and to making sense of life, before and after death.

…and Holy Spirit… God is alive, loving and active today, inspiring faith, justice and truth, sustaining the life of the world, giving spiritual gifts to the church and bearing his spiritual fruit in the world - changed lives and a transformed society.

Additional one off services can be found through our Worship Menu

Holy Communion (8 am):

This does not include music but has a regular congregation who find it a valuable and a practical way to start a Sunday. The service generally lasts around 40 minutes. The first Sunday in each month the service uses the words laid down in the 1662 Book of Common Prayer, but on other Sundays a more modern setting retaining a lot of the beauty of the traditional language is used.

All Age Worship:

This is not a communion service but features music, bible readings and a family friendly address. It is designed to be of interest to those new to coming to church and to families with young children. The service usually lasts for 45 mins and is always followed by a sociable coffee in the church centre afterwards. An additional communion service is provided at 6pm on these Sundays

Mattins:

This service uses the Book of Common Prayer and is accompanied by the choir and hymns. Services usually last about 50 mins. This is a more reflective service.

Parish Communion:

This traditional service includes a choir and hymns and communion. All confirmed members of the Church of England are welcome to take communion as are those who regularly take communion in their own churches. If you do not wish to receive communion but prefer to rceive a prayer of blessing just carry the service book with you to the altar or keep your hands below the rail to indicate that you do not wish to receive the bread and wine. The service lasts about 1hr 10 mins and is always followed by a sociable coffee in the church centre afterwards.

Evening Prayer:

This quiet service is unaccompanied by music and is reflective in tone. The congregation is usually small and sits in the choir stalls for an intimate, quiet service. The service lasts about 30 minutes.

Wednesday 10 am:

This service is popular with those who have not been able to make a Sunday or prefer a less busy service.
