St Anne's Lent Course..

Our 2019 Lent Course has now been completed.

'Broken' - A six-week study course for Lent 2019

Written by Canon Dr Paula Gooder
Director of Mission Learning & Development, Diocese of Birmingham.

The TV series, 'Broken', written by Jimmy McGovern and starring Sean Bean is set in an estate parish somewhere in the UK.

The series focuses on the life and ministry of Father Michael Kerrigan, a Roman Catholic, priest who, despite past trauma and anxiety about his own inadequacies, attempts to bring the light of Christ into the lives of the people amongst whom he ministers. The series portrays real life at its most gritty and unvarnished, and in doing so raises many questions along the way about how to live faithfully when life is very hard.

Please be aware that this series contains some disturbing story lines. It is not for the faint-hearted. The series contains lots of swearing, and themes of death, suicide, abuse, violence etc…. and has therefore been given a 15 rating.

The idea of the course is to provide the space for people to pick up the questions raised in the series and to explore how they might want to answer them. Each evening will include an episode of the programme, a Bible passage as well as some related questions for discussion. For further information follow this link

The dates are Wednesdays in Lent (13, 20, 27 March and 03, 10 and 17 April) each evening will start at 7.30pm and end between 9.15 and 9.30pm.

What it means to be a Christian.

Christian life is lived in relationship with God through Jesus Christ, and in common with other Christians in the church seeking to deepen that relationship and to follow the way that Jesus taught.

For Christians God is understood and known as Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

…Father… God is love, caring for creation and for every human being as God's beloved child.

…Son… God is as he has revealed himself to be in the historical person of Jesus Christ. Jesus' life, death and resurrection holds the key to knowing and loving God, and to making sense of life, before and after death.

…and Holy Spirit… God is alive, loving and active today, inspiring faith, justice and truth, sustaining the life of the world, giving spiritual gifts to the church and bearing his spiritual fruit in the world - changed lives and a transformed society.
